Pam gave us an overview of the Peer Tutor Program. This program was developed to provide certified qualified training for high school students so they can tutor elementary age children. The tutoring takes place at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church with the help of Reverend Brown. Right now there are 10 tutors for 20 students. This program is in need of at least 7 more volunteer student tutors. The elementary students are happy to have high school students tutoring them. Majority of students being tutored are french immersion students from grade 3-8. Literacy and math are the only curriculum covered in tutoring. There is a $40 donation request for snacks and juice if the parents are able to contribute but its not mandatory.

Natalie and Hannah are two HHS students who have volunteered and completed the training to be Peer Tutors. Hannah was approached to tutor and she was hesitant at first. After careful consideration she decided that it was a good idea. She was amazed at how only one hour a week of her time could help a child grow! Training equipped her with valuable skills she can use in the future. Tutoring has helped Hannah to decide to be a Speech Pathologist.

Natalie is a Certified Senior Tutor. Natalie's love for children has encouraged her to tutor a total of 9 students in her high school career. She is great with children and she plans to work with children in her future career path.

Jennifer Jerrett thanked our guest for coming.
