Natalie started a presentation of nine slides.
  1.  Why Plan for the Future  -  more requirement for single rooms to eliminate infections, for privacy and for confidentiality.  Also, because the current infrastructure needs $ 30 million in investment
  2. Pre Capital Submission.  This was started in 2012.  MAHST was formed in 2016.  All information is on their website
  3. Stage 1:  A $ 1 million planning grant from the Ministry has been received.  All options must be reviewed.  There could be a shift of services to the community.  Buildings left vacant to be re-purposed.
  4. What’s Different This Time:  There are 25 persons on the task force from various organizations and communities.
Harold Continued:
  1. Potential Models for the Future: a. Two Sites (not status quo) b. One Site Out-Patient/One Site In-Patient  c.  One Site centrally located
  2. Draft Evaluation Criteria:  Patient and Family Centred Care, Financial, Alignment, Municipal Impact, and Community Support
They want feedback from everyone, so please complete the survey to help with their decisions.
Survey: bit.ly/MAHCsurvey.  Survey open until October 13, 2017.
  1. Project Targets: Feedback review, Additional community engagement, Model evaluation
  2. Important Points to Consider: a. Need to change b. Compromise is necessary c. Need a plan we can all get behind
  3. Questions:
  1. How to determine status quo?  Current funding is not sufficient; technology changes
  2. What about transportation? There is a fear about distance, but some services may be closer.  Projections show that hospital/emergency visits will be much less in 10 years
Also, more services will be provided on site or at home visits by paramedics or deliveries by drones.  There will be an expansion of technology
  1. Encourage getting message out to all ages, including schools
  2. New building budget is separate to operation expenses
  3. Economic impact is part of the discussion for a decision
  4. Important to note that Rotary Club of Huntsville has donated over $ 300,000 to our hospital over the years.  If a new hospital is in one town, the people in the other town may not feel inclined to volunteer/donate to a hospital not in their town
  5. Survey – some confusion on how the survey is worded.  The selection of the three models was a task force decision.
