Hoya Robotics

Hoya Robotics is a robotics team based out of Huntsville High School. The team was founded in 2011, and have been competing in FIRST Robotics Competitions ever since. In addition to competing with teams from across the globe, they educate our community by visiting schools and holding various events to teach the public about robotics and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics.) As an effort to give back to our community, they also refurbish donated computers and deliver them to The Table, our local food bank.

They also support science and technology in the following ways:

  • they provide training and support for TLDSB elementary schools in Lego Robotics and help with the board wide competition
  • team members present to elementary schools and community groups
  • team captains spent a week in Ottawa learning about post-secondary opportunities in technology
  • team visit to Kimberly-Clark to learn how automation is used in assembly lines
  • they host a Programming Challenge 4 Girls event in December to encourage grade 10 girls to consider taking computer science
  • team members refurbish computers to donate to the local food bank to allow families in need to have affordable access to technology
  • the team has visited Georgian College to learn about web development and Ryerson University to learn about smartphone development
This team will be competing at Georgian College from March 24-26 and again in North Bay from April 6-8th. To get a true sence of how robotics competitions work CLICK HERE to view
