Speaker Norm Miller was busy.....Visiting Rotarian stepped up........

Badar Shamin - visiting Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Brampton Ontario accepted the offer to bring greetings from his club and fill us in on some of their activities. We even presented him with the speaker`s gift.

Badar spoke that he was in Huntsville looking at a ``time share`` and was looking for a Rotary Club to attend while in our town.

 

He said that their largest fund raiser is a Rib Fest where they earn $15,000.

 

He grew up in Pakistan`s largest city and his club supports efforts to improve high schools in that country. Apparently there are on taxes in his country so there is little money for public education of for facilities such as clean water or sanitation. His Club also support schools in teaching English. He says that it’s very important to support the underprivileged children as they have little.

 

His club hosts Water Walk Uganda Awareness project where they promote how hard it is to carry water to your village from a far away source when they is now well in your village. Once people carry 20 liters of water a kilometer, it really helps in raising money to help drill wells around the world.

 

It was nice to hear from another club of some of the things that they are doing , all in the name of Rotary.
