At our luncheon meeting last week our club was busy making motions to get the approval of the club at large to support several initiatives which the board had approved at a  recent board meeting;

1)   $5000 to support the Seniors Winter Games for people 55 years and older that will be coming to Huntsville in February 2013. Ross Kirwin spoke in support of the Senior Winter Games relating that the Halliburton Rotary club had indicated that the similar games in 2010 were very successful for the entire area.  Our club feels it is important to support these games as they will be a very large economic generator for our entire town and area in the winter.

2)   $2000 was requested by the town of Huntsville to finish the installation of a slide at the summit center pool.

3)   $500 per month or $6000 this year was proposed to be sent to the table food bank from our earnings of our bingo fundraiser.

It was nice to get the approval of the club to do all these projects but now we must work really hard to earn the money to do these projects. To help us in this need for fund raising, Ross Kirwin told us that we have received the approval from the organizing committee of the Girl Friend’s Weekend  on November 9, 10 and 11, to run the bar facilities at the summit center during the Amanda  Marshall’s concert on Saturday November 10th.

Ross commented that we need as many Rotarians is possible to acquire their  Smart Serve status as we will need a large number of people to support the five bar areas at the concert. To obtain the Smart Serve certificate, Rotarians can achieve this online.

Ross will soon be communicating with all smart serve Rotarians set up schedules for November 10th. This sounds like a very busy evening with an expected 1600 girlfriends at a concert but it will be exciting time working with our Rotarians and making sure that the “girl friends” have a good time in our town.ImageImage
