Margaret Walton gave a brief presentation about District 7010 and Foundation Funding. Every dollar donates goes directly into programs. There are 42 Clubs in 7010 with a variety of programs in each community. Our district has a fundraiser called Million Dollar Diner. Each Rotary club in the district is challenged to raise 10,000 each. The goal is to raise a minimum of one million dollars (USD). This money will be for The Rotary Foundation or Bequest Society of The Rotary Foundation (Canada). Every dollar donated will be matched by the Foundation. Teacher Darryl Scott talked about the Student Parliament enrichment program at Huntsville High School. The program was developed for students that want to see and enact change. Each representative goes out of their way to enrich the lives of other students within the school and create events for each school year.

Chris Pierce the Prime Minister of SPAR (Student Parliament), talked about he role he plays in making HHS a better place. The goal of SPAR is to make HHS a better place and Communality. The student reps organize activities, events, listen and act on student opinions. SPAR has also connected with community organizations like the Rotary Club!

 

The SPAR has 3-5 executives per year equaling 25 students. These students with their advisers have organized BBQ/Carnivals during exams, Hallow week activities, “We Scare Hunger Food Drives and “The Great Pasta Challenge for the Table Food Bank”.

 

Some of the most challenging Projects SPAR has accomplished are;

  • Own ATM in the school

  • Recycling program in public locations throughout the school

  • Mascot Captain Hoya

These programs were made possible with the help of Lou Luvison. He helped the students acquire event planning skills. SPAR had a successful BBQ Fundraiser that helped make these programs a real

HAPPY BUCKS

  1. Peter Van Buskirk thanked Charolette Holland who created the Get Well Cards.

  2. Hugh had a happy $5 for turning 75.

  3. The Jarvis's were sad to have Helmi leave, but were happy that she got to run in OFSA.

  4. Pam was voted Readers Choice Sales Person of the Year in Bracebridge.

  5. Marina is happy to be chosen for the Rotary Student Exchange Program.

  6. Chris was happy to be at Rotary and for all Rotary's help with SPAR program.
