Cam white spoke briefly of an idea that our club can participate with The Muskoka Conservancy a volunteer-based, charitable organization whose mandate is to protect, conserve and nurture Muskoka’s natural and cultural environment now and for future generations.   They believe in working with our community to create and support a vibrant Muskoka that honors the traditions of the community and protects our natural environment. They carry out four fundamental programs: land protection, private land stewardship, education/outreach, and habitat restoration. The Butterfly gardens create important habitat for the group of species that is important to pollinating many native plant species.

The Conservancy wants to create a butterfly garden on Fairy View Drive which is the street up behind Kawartha Dairy on Highway # 60. Our club would provide time and labour to do planting projects that would attract the butterflies. This project would come under the activity of the Environmental Committee which has picked purple loose strife along highway #11 to reduce its spread into our wetlands and organizes the annual litter pick-up along Golf Course Road and Highway # 60 over the last several years.

The Club members supported this new proposal idea in a show of hands at last week’s evening meeting. Please refer to the attachment for the full project idea.
