Speakers

Doug Fairhall introduced special speakers Marta Bonelli and Keith Uhrig. This couple has devoted the last 19 yrs to community building around the world. For the last 10 yrs they have focused their efforts on helping a town in Nicaraugua called Corozal. Our Rotary Club has sponsored their efforts for the past 7 yrs.

How Rotary donation and other donations helped in the humanitarian efforts;

  • $150 pig (which was slaughtered) and candy for pinata

  • 900 meals out of pig

  • 100 people preparing meals

  • $80 for new tires for transportation

  • developed compost

  • washing stations

  • built Latrines (approx. $350)

  • Sponsors for students to go to a Montessori School

What is still needed;

  • Government accountability and infrastructure

  • sewage system (water is contaminated)

  • personal hygiene training

  • sources of food (pigs, chickens, ect)

Ron Strickland announced that the funds donated come from Foundation Funding. He asked the club and Marta if it were possible to buy two pigs to breed or maybe chickens and/or goats? Sandy will evaluate where the money will go.
