Green Energy...we can all produce and profit from it!!

Luncheon Speaker: Greenside Electric, owned by Don Taylor; discussed Green Energy applications that can reduce our energy costs for our homes and businesses here in Muskoka.

Greenside Electric is a full service business electrical contractor and a green energy supplier too. They can lead you through the application process to make the best choice of programs for you.

Don spoke briefly about the FIT Incentive  Program which is for commercial systems over 10kW and the microFIT Incentive Program, which is for residential systems up to 10 kW hour installations. The idea is to install a roof mounted solar panel system; then the Ontario Power Authority will send you a monthly cheque for a contract time of up to 20 years at the payout of 56 cents per kW hour generated.  The cost of a 10 kW system is approximately $45,000. The solar panels are warranted for 25 years and many will last for up to 40 years.  In an investment prospective the return on your money over 20 years is 10 to 20%; which in anyone`s books, is excellent!!

Net Metering:  Another option that Don reviewed with us was Net Metering, where you can send the energy that you generate back into the grid; thus reducing your energy costs.

Solar Domestic Hot Water: Hot water is one of the largest uses of energy in our homes!!By creating an alternative source you will use less energy and spent less money. Here’s how it works.......with flat plate solar collectors, the sun’s heat is captured and transferred through an integrated heat exchanger to your water. The relatively simple process has very significant economic and environment benefits.
