Garth Thomas who died recently on August 30 was remembered by his friends and associates at his memorial service held at the Canadian Legion on September 6th. He came to Huntsville when he graduated from Ryerson University in Toronto to work at the radio station in Huntsville. He worked here for a short period of time then moved to southern Ontario and came back very soon to Huntsville where he made his home at the radio station, was manager of the Huntsville Forester newspaper and the sports writer and sports broadcaster for 50 years. It was said that he knew all of the players of all the teams in Huntsville and when a player scored they would hear their name on his radio sports report the next morning.

Bill SIbeon remembers him as a very good friend and a very funny guy that he played opposite in 20 odd rotary musicals. Bill remembers Garth with a great baritone voice and you never knew whether he knew his lines or not; every show was different so you made up your response lines out to meet Garth's lines .

Both at the memorial service and at our Rotary luncheon last week Bill related that when Garth either forgot his lines in the play or just signed off on his sports report he would just simply say a word that has no meaning or spelling but everybody knew it was Garth. Smooze!

At the Rotary District 7010 conference that will be held in Ottawa next weekend, Garth will be remembered with other Rotarian's and partners who have died in the last year. Thanks to Shannan Boothby, the photo that we are submitting for that service is a combination of photos that were in the newspaper.
