Earth Day Event Description
This is an exciting Earth Day event that is held at the Waterloo Summit Centre for the Environment on April 19th, 2014 from 10am until 3pm. It is a workshop event that is open to all ages.
There will also be a Rotary Club BBQ lunch break, where the winner of the essay contest will be announced. There are four hands on workshops for the public to take part in.
Use the latest technology to analyze water samples from Muskoka
Learn the difference between excellent water quality and poor water quality
Determine the health of each lake, river, and pond sample
· Invasive Species
Identify which local invasive species could be in your backyard
Learn about common invasive species in Ontario
How they impact the natural environment
· Aquatic Benthic Invertebrates
Visually see the different invertebrates using a microscope
Learn how to identify aquatic benthic invertebrates
Learn which environments they live in
· Tree Planting
Plant your own tree and become an expert tree planter
Learn which trees make economic sense for your home
Learn what each species’ needs for survival
The workshops will be running consecutively and will be accessible to the public with FREE admission. The workshops will each begin at 10am, 11am, 1pm, and 2pm. It will be a great way to get your hands dirty, learn new things all while having fun with family and friends!
