Christine’s Place, a Pregnancy Support Centre,  just around the corner from the Family Place Restaurant @ 1 King William Street, Unit # 7, Huntsville Ontario.

Image              Dr Laura Lewis and Jenn Adair came to our luncheon meeting last Wednesday to introduce us to a support facility that has recently opened its door to ladies who feel that they have no one to talk to or any place to go to seek help for a bad situation – being pregnant.

The goal of this centre is to come along side, the often young woman, who feels abandoned by boyfriend, family, friends, everyone & to be with them in this crisis to work though the situation for the battement of all concerned.

Laura outlined their client base:

1)      There are teens who want to get pregnant – as they see the mother’s allowance and think that all will be well for them. These teens probably have friends and maybe even parents that started off in the same manner.

2)      Adoption Issue, many married couples cannot have their own children....having sex, give up the baby; their actions are a value to our society.

3)      Debating abortion--- girl wants baby erased!! Many are pressured into it. Many bad practice centres.

Image            Jenn Adair, told her story of being given up as a wee baby to a loving adoptive couple who are her parents and whom she loves dearly. As a teenager she wanted to find her mum, to learn who she was, where she was born, to learn of family history, medical history and get to know her mum. The room was very quiet as she was relating her story; learning of her Mum’s family pain, of their daughter rebelling against all their values and running away from home and never returning, just a phone call now and then. Finally Jenn found her grandpa through the connections of the Children’s Aid and he related to her that they had tried to forget their daughter, her Mum, even to the point of getting rid of all her things and photos. Finally when she was in her early 20’s she asked her Grandpa for a connection to her mum; he gave her the last phone # that she called from, but advised her not to use it as her mum was a drug addict all her life and she never stayed anywhere very long.  She called the # and spoke to her mum. Later she met her at a coffee shop – her Mum was a mess, tough looking but a carbon copy of her daughter.  Her mum didn’t really want to learn much about her little girl’s life as she was ashamed of giving her up so many years ago and felt that god was punishing her for what she had done.  A few years after the meeting, Jenn learned that her Mum had over dosed and passed away at 47 years, her name was Christine.

Goal of Christine’s Place is not to let any women go through the pregnancy ordeal alone.

George Young thanked the ladies on behalf of our Club.
