Charlotte Lee was introduced to our luncheon meeting by Rotarian Doug Fairhall. Doug said that he first met Charlotte in 2005 when she asked him whether our club could help finance the drilling of boreholes to supply much needed fresh water to the natives living in that country. Since then, our club has drilled 5 wells and another will be completed later this summer. She reported to us that the blue plaques that Doug had prepared have been placed on each of the wells in Malawi. Charlotte related that to date 3000 people now have fresh water to drink, bath in and cook with as a result of the financial support that our club has provided.

Charlotte also reported to us that she had helped in another international project while she was in Malawi to distribute school supplies to the children in the villages. Schooling of the village children is not a priority by the parents and so projects from afar are needed to get the children involved in learning and necessary to make going to school a habit.

Our Rotary Club appreciates very much the time and effort that Charlotte Lee has put into our water well projects in Malawi.  Image
